IoT SAFE is an interoperable GSMA standard that turns the SIM into a miniature crypto-safe inside a device. It uses this secure element to establish a Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) session with a trusted application cloud or server.
The standard provides a common application programming interface (API) for using the SIM as a root of trust. IoT devices can then authenticate themselves and exchange data only with approved systems. This ensures that all data sent or received is encrypted and protected from unauthorized access.
