2023 Kigen-Soracom Partnership News – iSIM

July 06, 2023

Kigen welcomes the announcement by SORACOM, a global provider of advanced IoT connectivity, of platform-wide support for integrated SIM (iSIM) and availability on the SORACOM IoT Store in Japan and with SORACOM Air for Cellular data communication services. This news was announced through a Japanese-language release at their SORACOM Discovery 2023 event. This official and commercial general availability of iSIM is to meet the needs of ever-more compact and battery-efficient IoT devices.

Kigen describes the evolution of SIM to eSIM or eUICC and iSIM or ieUICC

This announcement comes with the support of Kigen’s iSIM ecosystem partners, Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd, Quectel Wireless Solutions Co., Ltd and SONY Semiconductor Israel Ltd. The companies had jointly demonstrated a successful Proof of Concept (PoC) around iSIM technology in July 2021. Following this announcement, collaborative work has been undertaken jointly to establish how customers can fully realise the benefits of iSIM technology.

iSIM technology is a game changer for those who want to protect data from connected devices. The commercial use of iSIM on SORACOM’s network follows extensive testing of Kigen iSIM OS with market-leading modules and chipsets, allowing customers around the world to differentiate themselves. This IoT solution can now be built at scale.

We are pleased to be able to start commercial provision of iSIM by working with partners who have extensive knowledge in each field. We have developed a “subscription container” function that stores multiple line contracts in one SIM and switches them as needed, and has expanded the line contracts that can be switched. Through the provision of iSIM, SORACOM’s network and line management, and cloud-native services, we will support the rapid global expansion of our customers’ products and services.
